Animal Species

There are a wide array of carnivorous species allowed to be played on The Fall of Man. The most common, intelligent animals are mammals, though there are reptilian and avian species that have evolved as well. Below are the accepted genera of animal species allowed on TFM:

  • Felidae
  • Ursidae
  • Canidae
  • Hyaenidae
  • Mustelidae
  • Lacertidae
  • Aves
  • Reptilia

Evolution

Species

Due to how the virus spread, only carnivorous animals absorbed and metabolized the mutation through their diet of meat. The earliest animals acquired the virus through its direct source - the corpses of the humans that died from it. As new generations were born, the mutations caused by the virus have been passed down, mutated even more, and evolved animals into what they are today... bipedal, intelligent, and empowered.

Physiology

All evolved animals have the ability to either walk bipedal (on two hind legs) or quadrupedal (on four legs). While some simply choose to appear more like their ancestors did - walking on all fours and wearing no clothing or accessories, some choose to be more ‘humanized’ and walk on their hind legs, wear clothing and accessories, and use weapons. This is not to say that some quadrupedal animals do not wear clothing, however.

Animals of higher class with access to clothing and accessories made for animals tend to be more prone to high humanization rather than lower class animals who may not have the means to obtain them so readily. It is not frowned upon in society for an animal to essentially be ‘naked’, as many of the animals choose this way of life.

Some animals are born with a head of hair, likely a mutation from the HMN77 virus. And while it doesn’t happen very often, it is socially acceptable.

Colors

While deviations from typical fur colors of species are generally OK (ex. a lion with calico markings or a cheetah with light brown spots), we do not allow fantasy-colored animals on TFM. Slight color differences in commissioned art, such as stylistic choices or colored shading, are OK, but we do not allow purple bears and green lions on TFM!

Language

All intelligent animals speak English in Collinwood, and some even speak different languages from other parts of the world.

Age

Shorter than human lives, but much longer than the lives of their ancestors, most evolved animals have a lifespan of about 50 years. At 15 years of age, animal children reach maturity and are considered adults, to be thrust out into the world to find their purpose. In contrast, most animals begin to feel the effects of old age around 40 years old.

Height & Weight

Please use your chosen animal’s body length to determine their height. Weight may be adjusted a bit from the information you find on Google, due to it likely being a bit different after the mutation. Variances in height and weight are OK as long as they’re not extreme changes.

Social Hierarchy

The animals live by a monarchy that is led by Panthera, specifically lions. Where the King is often seen as a figurehead whose job is to protect the land and keep order, the Queen is the true leader of Collinwood. Strategic, respected, and powerful, the Queen ensures the Crown stays in power, well-informed of their enemies’ movements and motives, and responds to the concerns of her people. The rest are put into categories that determine their access to food and supplies, social status, and access to tools and materials that make life a bit more easier and enjoyable.

Upper Class

1. Panthera
2. Ursus
3. Canis

Middle Class

4. Felis
5. Hyaena
6. Vulpes

Lower Class

7. Mustela
8. Aves
9. Reptilia
10. Lacerta

A Few Notes...

  • Any carnivorous species in the above classifications can be played as a character on The Fall of Man. If you're not sure about a species, please contact a staff member and ask!
  • Birds have evolved to have a more humanoid body shape, though do still have feathers covering most of their bodies and tough skin on their legs and feet
  • Predominantly vegetation-eating Herbivores are not available to play on TFM because they aren't evolved and are still considered food sources, pack animals, transportation, etc. We do allow predominantly meat-eating omnivores, but please reach out to a staff to confirm this!
